Police appeal for witnesses to Saturday assault

A teenager was assaulted after a fight broke out on Chapel Street, Ripley over the weekend.

A 17-year-old male from Derby was taken to hospital with head injuries following the incident.

The teenager was in the town with five other friends when they encountered another group of six youths.

After an argument the victim was punched and knocked unconscious. A hospital nurse witnessed the incident as she passed on a bus and got off to help him.

The victim had to be taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by ambulance where he had surgery.

Three teens, two aged 16 and one aged 17, from Ripley, were arrested following the incident and have since been bailed while further enquiries are made. Anyone with information should contact police on 0345 123 33 33.
