'Number of fights' in Ripley town centre force police to put new order in place

A dispersal order has been put in place in Ripley town centre after police were called to a “number of fights” in the town last night.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance on the Market Place at 12.20am on Friday, July 10, where there was a group of about 80 people and a number of fights taking place.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “No arrests were made at the scene; however, enquiries are ongoing to identify anyone who may have committed an offence.”

Due to the large disturbance, the large number of people gathered on Market Place and the ongoing risk posed by COVID-19 a dispersal order has been put in place from 6pm this evening, Saturday, July 11.

This order, which will be in place for 48 hours, will require anyone to leave the area, including the High Street and Crossley Park and not return within 24 hours. If a person refuses to leave, or returns within the 24 hours period, then they can be arrested.

Anyone who witnessed the incident on the Market Place is urged to contact Derbyshire police using any of the below methods, including incident number 23-110720 in their correspondence:
