Man pleads guilty to Jia murder

DAVID Simmonds has pleaded guilty to the murder of Thorntons worker Jia Ashton.

Married Jia’s body was found in Sleetmoor Woods, Somercotes, near her home in March.

Simmonds, 21, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court where he admitted the charge.

Jia had been murdered on her way home from work on March 10. She had been reported missing by her husband, Matthew, on March 11. Her body was found by a Mountain Rescue search dog on Sunday, March 13.

The police investigation into Jia’s death continued for eight weeks until David Simmonds was arrested on May 5.

He will be sentenced on October 7.
