Man assaulted his partner after Christmas row

A JAIL sentence hangs over a Ripley man who assaulted his partner following a row over the Christmas period.

Chesterfield magistrates heard that Simon Bromyard, 42, had been in a two-year relationship with victim Penny Aspinall.

They had both been drinking on December 27 and he was drunk. He was about to leave following an argument and he pushed her, causing her to fall to the floor. Sarah Haslam, prosecuting, said Ms Aspinall suffered a cut and bruising to her forehead.

He had received a one-year conditional discharge in January, last year, for assaulting her.

On that occasion she called police from a phone box. Officers believed she had been drinking and may have taken tablets and she was taken to hospital.

Bromyard, of Ash Crescent, admitted assault and breaching a conditional discharge. He had previous convictions for assault.

The Bench jailed him for 14 weeks but suspended the sentence for 18 months. They also imposed an 18-month probation supervision order, with £85 costs.
