Footprints in the snow led to thief

FOOTPRINTS in the snow helped police track down a Swanwick man who stole bicycles from properties in the village.

An off-duty police officer saw someone breaking into sheds at the rear of houses in The Green at 12.30am on February 5.

He alerted officers who followed footprints to an address on The Delves, where a resident confirmed a BMX bike had been stolen from an outbuilding.

“The tracks from that address led to the defendant’s home. A BMX and a mountain bike, were in a large cupboard in the living room,” prosecutor Mike Treharne told Chesterfield magistrates.

Jamie White’s tracks were then followed to an address in Belvedere Close from which the mountain bike was taken.

White, 24, of The Green, Swanwick, admitted theft of cycles.

Sentence was adjourned until next Wednesday for probation service reports.
