A HEANOR man who jumped on his scooter in search of more beer fell off the bike and was caught drink-driving, a court has heard.
Mike Treharne, prosecuting, told Chesterfield magistrates Jack Baldwin lost control of his Vespa Paiggio in Church Street, Horsley Woodhouse, on May 2.
Police were called and he failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. He was taken to hospital for treatment and gave a sample showing he had 131mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood, the limit being 80mgs.
Jobless Baldwin, 28, of Laceyfields Road, admitted drink-driving and was fined £115, with £85 costs. He also got a one-year driving ban, to be cut to nine months if he passes a rehabilitation course.
He said: “I was a bit stupid. I was on the way to fetch some more beer and there was an oncoming car.”
