Police are investigating after a dog was apparently shot at a Derbyshire beauty spot.
At about 7am on Friday, a man was walking his two-year-old German Shepherd in Shipley Country Park.
The dog was off its lead and looking around the park when the man heard what he described as a “loud crack”.
A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “The German Shepherd suffered serious injuries to its hind legs, including an open wound on one and a large graze on the other.
“The dog was extremely distressed, as were its owners. It has had treatment and is fortunately now recovering at home.
“Its owner reported that they had heard a loud crack shortly before the dog came back out of a wooded area with its injuries.
“We want to hear from anyone who was in Shipley park around the time of the incident. If you heard a similar loud crack or saw anything out of the ordinary, please call us on 101, quoting incident number 39162/15.”
A fellow dog walker said: “The incident has caused much concern.”
