A SCRAP between two dogs sparked a dispute between their owners that ended in violence, a court has been told.
The incident took place as Richard Simpkins and Richard Jones walked their dogs in South Normanton.
Fernando Rodrigues, prosecuting, said they were walking in different directions when Mr Jones’ dog ‘went for’ Simpkins’ dog. A confrontation between the men developed and Simpkins kicked Mr Jones’ left leg, punched him in the mouth and head-butted his left cheek.
“He was arrested and interviewed and he accepted the kick and the punch but not the head-butt.
“He apologised for his actions,” Mr Rodrigues told magistrates at Chesterfield.
Simpkins, 43, of Larchdale Close, South Normanton, admitted the April 2 assault, but his account of events differed from that given by the victim.
Magistrates adjourned sentence until June 15 for a mini-trial to decide what exactly happened during the incident. They said Simpkins would face a greater punishment if t he had head-butted Mr Jones.
