An Amber Valley man slipped up over a dropped banana skin – which landed him with a bill of £462.
Ian Wells, of Cromford Road, Langley Mill, appeared before Derby magistrates’ court on November 14, after dropping the banana skin on Mansfield Road in Heanor.
He refused to accept a Fixed Penalty Notice and attempted to appeal it.
But Mr Wells was informed the appeal was refused because banana peel can take months to break down and decompose. It also poses a slipping hazard. Magistrates imposed a total of £462.50 in fines and costs.
Amber Valley borough councillor Chris Short said: “If everyone disposed of their apple cores and banana skins in this manner our streets would soon be dirty, unsightly and dangerous.”
