Convict who escaped from Derbyshire prison captured in Holland

A convict who absconded from an open prison in Derbyshire has been brought back to the UK from Holland.

Michael Collinson absconded from HMP Sudbury in June 2012 and inquires to trace him found he was in Holland.

Police applied for a European Arrest Warrant, which was granted by Dutch authorities, and Collinson was brought back to the UK.

He was charged with escaping from lawful custody and remanded. He will next appear at Derby Crown Court on April 13 for sentencing.

Collinson, 32, was originally sentenced at Leicester Crown Court in March 2010 to six years and eight months imprisonment for wounding with intent.
