Bag thieves prey on OAPs

POLICE are hunting bag snatchers who preyed on two elderly women last week.

At 4.10pm on Friday, a 78-year-old woman was walking past a jitty, near Tesco, on Kingsway in Heanor, when a black car pulled up beside her and the passenger got out.

He grabbed her handbag, which contained a small amount of cash, then jumped back into the car and was driven away. He is described as a white male in his mid-twenties, of medium height, with short dark hair.

The second incident happened on the High Street in Swanwick on Saturday at 11am. A 76-year-old woman was walking along when she was approached by a man who grabbed her handbag and ran away.

A police spokeswoman said there is no evidence to link the robberies at the moment and are calling for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
