Bag snatchers target pensioners three times

POLICE are hunting bag snatchers who have preyed on three elderly women over the last week.

At 4.10pm on Friday, a 78-year-old woman was walking past a jitty, near Tesco on Kingsway in Heanor, when a black car pulled up beside her and the passenger got out.

The man grabbed her handbag, which contained a small amount of cash, then jumped back into the car and was driven away.

He is described as a white male in his mid-twenties, of medium height, with short dark hair.

The second incident happened on the High Street in Swanwick on Saturday at 11am.

A 76-year-old woman was walking along when she was approached by a man who grabbed her handbag and ran away.

An elderly lady was the victim of a third attack on School Lane, Heage, at 3.15pm on Monday.

A green Vauxhall Astra pulled up beside her and a man jumped out from the driver’s side and grabbed her handbag.

He is described as a white male, in his late-twenties, of medium build, and was wearing jeans.

The passenger in the car was wearing a baseball cap.

Police say there is no evidence to link the robberies at this stage and are calling for anyone with information to call 101.
