Assault after pub sacking

A RIPLEY man could be locked up after a court heard that he laughed as he battered a former work colleague.

Victim Simon Cooke used to work with Anthony Bennett and they blamed each other for losing their jobs at a pub. Bennett attacked Mr Cooke from behind, dragged him to the ground, kicked and punched him and stamped on his head. Bennett, of Larch Avenue, Ripley, admitted assault and was committed to Derby Crown Court for sentence on November 4. Bennett’s solicitor, Annette Thomas, said he had been going through a difficult time following divorce.
