Cow freed by fire fighters

A farm animal had a lucky escape on Friday - when fire fighters managed to rescue it from drowning in thick mud.

A large cow was gotten stuck up to its neck in a field just off Chesterfield Road, Alfreton and emergency services were called at around 10am.

Fire crews from the Matlock animal rescue unit attended the scene alongside the RSPCA.

The cow was pulled free at around 11am and left in the care of vets.
