Council considers selling its headquarters

AMBER Valley Borough Council is to market its central headquarters in Ripley with a view to selling or renting out the building.

It follows a recommendation from an independent surveyor appointed to carry out a survey of the marketing potential of the 54,000sq metres of office space on four floors in the centre of Ripley.

The council’s occupation of the building has significantly reduced over time following the re-organisation of services, said a spokesman.

It has let some of the spare space to partner organisations, but said occupation was likely to fall further following national changes to the benefits system and the council’s own review of working methods.

In December it appointed an independent surveyor to assess whether there would be merit in marketing the building.
