Council celebrates the Jubilee

Erewash Borough Council will light two beacons as part of the worldwide chain that will officially commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Monday night.

The beacons will be simultaneously lit at the front of both Long Eaton and Ilkeston Town Halls at 10.15pm as they become part of the network of over 4,000 jubilee beacons which will be lit across the country and the Commonwealth.

On Sunday as part of its Jubilee celebrations the council is offering reduced prices at its swimming pools.

People can take a dip at Victoria Park Leisure Centre in Ilkeston or West Park Leisure Centre in Long Eaton for just 60p to mark the occasion.

Erewash residents are also being asked to nominate sites for special Jubilee benches.

People have until today to name their suggested sites for celebration seats and the council will choose 60 spots from the list.

Nomination forms are available on the council’s website at or from the receptions at Ilkeston or Long Eaton Town Halls.
