FREEZING temperatures are set to continue in Belper today, but there will not be a return of freezing rain and snow, forecasters say.
The mercury will plummet to -5 degrees Celsius tonight in mid-Derbyshire according to the Met Office.
Severn Trent Water have issued advice to people in the Amber Valley region whose water pipes have frozen.
Paul Baldwyn, the company’s customer service centre manager said: “Many customers may not realise that Severn Trent is only responsible for the water mains and service pipes in the public highway.
“Anything inside the property boundary is the responsibility of the homeowner. Taking steps now to make sure the pipework leading to your home and within your property is protected from the cold can help avoid problems with frozen pipes later in the winter.”
Severn Trent say if you find that you have no water during this cold snap, check your pipes for signs of splitting and if you see any damage, call a plumber. If you don’t fix this quickly, you may end up with flooding once the water thaws.
And check with your neighbours, if they have water it is likely to be your private supply pipe which runs from your property to our main that has frozen.
