Club hears from Father

ALFRETON Inner Wheel Club President Jean opened the March meeting and welcomed everyone.

Dinner was served followed by the introduction of our speaker Father Frank Mercurio, who has spoken to us on other occasions. This time his talk was on ‘His Life’. Father Frank told us of his Sicilian roots and Catholic upbringing in the USA, through to his move to England, ordination into the Church of England, and appointment to St. Martins in Alfreton.

Lorraine McGlone gave a vote of thanks and president Jean presented Father Frank with a cheque for for his church.

Birthday congratulations were given to members with birthdays in March.

The business meeting opened with president Jean expressing her thanks to all who had helped to make our 66th Charter successful.

The raffle at the Rotary Valentine Dance had been successful as had the bucket collection for Arthritis Research.

Correspondence was read and club officers gave their reports.

A number of members are to travel to Bournemouth at the beginning of this month to attend the Inner

Wheel Conference, where we have one evening when we all need to dress with a ‘Western’ theme, lots of ‘cowgirls’.

We are to hold a ‘Gentlemen’s Evening’ in April, where we shall provide the entertainment.

On May 18 there is to be a Charity evening at the Derbyshire Hotel , with a casino, live band and buffet supper, in aid of Arthrits Research, which is the chosen charity of our District Chairman,
