Alfreton Male Voice choir has raised £1,000 for Cancer Research UK with a fundraising concert alongside the John Gill Country and Western Band.
On Thursday the choir turned out to present a cheque to Pamela McCane-Whitney MBE, chairman of the Alfreton and District branch of CRUK.
A spokesman for the choir said: “ Groundbreaking work takes place by many scientists in various laboratories throughout the country.
“There are laboratories near us in Derby and Nottinhgam where a lot of research takes place.
This research has resulted in a doubling of the survival rates in the last 40 years.
“Their aim is for earlier diagnosis and better treatment with greater understanding and awareness of how cancer develops.”
Mrs McCane-Whitney said: “I am very grateful to receive this £1,000 cheque donated by the Alfreton Male Voice Choir after they recently held a very successful concert in South Normanton.”
