Children's summer reading challenge
Children are being encouraged to keep reading through their school holidays by taking part in an annual challenge.
The Summer Reading Challenge is run by Derbyshire County Council’s libraries in conjunction with the Reading Agency. Children of all ages are encouraged to read up to six books over the summer holidays to maintain their reading skills and confidence, and activities are staged to help with this.
Each year the challenge helps to get around 750,000 children into libraries nationally at a time when their reading skills can drop off. The theme for this year’s challenge is ‘The Big Friendly Read’ to celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl.
