Cathedral pays tribute to Queen with service

A DIAMOND Jubilee Celebration Service to give thanks for the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II takes place at Derby Cathedral on Sunday 27 May at 3pm.

The Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire and the Bishop of Derby will welcome guests representing many aspects of local and community life from across the County and Diocese of Derby to the special Service.

“This will be ultimately an opportunity to give thanks for Her Majesty The Queen’s example to each and every one of us: humility, service and dedication are words which immediately come to mind,” said the Bishop of Derby, Dr Alastair Redfern.

The restored Bakewell Gates, which have been paid for by the Derbyshire Lieutenancy as a thanksgiving for the Queen’s reign, will be rededicated as the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Gates at the service.

A concert of royal music will be performed by the Cathedral Choir and the Kensington Sinfonia on the night before - Saturday May 26, at 7pm.
