A teenager who cared for his dying grandfather had his dream of travelling to his school prom in style saved at the 11th hour.

Ripley youngster George Thompson, 16, was due to travel to his prom in a limo, but after a mix up over booking he was left in the lurch at the last minute.

But his determined mum Louise, who was to pay for the limo treat as a thank you to George for caring for his granddad, began phoning firms in a desparate bid to line up a car.

She called Duffield firm Benz Bavarian were staff were so moved when they heard about George’s plight they offered to supply a £50,000 Bentley GT Titan sports car complete with a driver for the evening.

Louise, of Cotes Park Road, Ripley, said: “When George’s grandfather was diagnosed with a brain tumour and bone cancer it was incredibly hard on everyone and George was on hand every single day looking after him. Both conditions he suffered from were horrendous to go through and having George there to help him
really was special as he loved him very much.

“When we discovered the limo had fallen through at the last minute last Thursday, the day before the prom, I knew I had to do something. I wanted to give something special back to him.”
