A WORK advice club has begun this week in Ripley, offering jobseekers a helping hand in landing employment.

The scheme, being held at the Acorn Training Academy in Nottimgham Raod, is staffed mainly by volunteers and will be open on Thursday afternoons from 1pm until 4pm.

Marketing manager at Acorn Kimberley Millhouse, said: “Job seekers can come and get advice to help them get a job.

“They also have free access to our computers, which enables them to look for work and also to learn news skills. We offer many courses here at Acorn and what we hope is that we can get all our clients a job.”

Around 40 people turned up to the first Work Club. One of the volunteers, helping job seekers update their CVs and apply for employment on the day, was Work Club leader Deborah Hill. She said: “We are expecting a high turn out in Ripley as there is no Job Centre here. I’m hoping the people that come here will have a far more competitive edge over other people in the same position.”
