A gluten-fee cake baking firm from Ripley impressed judges enough to win a place in the grand final of a national culinary competition.

Incognito Cakes, formed by Russ and Yvette Johnson, of Butterley Hill, has seen their new Cheeky Little Monkey Cake Mix shortlisted for the innovation and foods designed for children categories in the prestigious FreeFrom Food Awards 2014.

The product was tested by a panel of more than 50 expert judges and beat off competition from more than 350 entries.

Russ said: “Specifically we wanted to give the children a mix of their own. There is no product like it on the market that is free from gluten, wheat and dairy products. We are very excited to find out if we have won at the awards ceremony.”

The Freefrom Food Awards honour chefs, bakers and companies that produce allergy–free food across the UK. Winners will be announced at an invitation–only awards ceremony in London on Tuesday, March 25.
