a SCHEME to find jobs for young people in Amber Valley has been launched.
Acorn Training Consultants Ltd, of Nottingham Road, Ripley, has taken on ten apprentices to promote the schemes to local businesses and interest other youngsters in the courses Acorn has to offer.
The young people on the 12-month Access to Apprenticeship (A2A) scheme are paid £78 for a 30-hour-week and receive advice and training while cold-calling other youngsters and companies in the area. At the end of the course, two apprentices will be guaranteed jobs with Acorn.
Hayley Wilde, 19, from Heanor, was referred to the course by the Job Centre after finishing a different course which lasted two and a half months. She said: “Looking for work was difficult, but now I have got all the support I need.”
Luke Stone, 17, from Belper, recently finished an apprenticeship but could not secure a full time job. He said: “I am really enjoying it. Today we went to Heanor Industrial Estate and got contacts which we will follow up later.”
Anyone aged 16 to 18 who’s not in employment, education or training is eligible to take part.
