THE owners of Alfreton Hall want to create eight new bedrooms to boost the property as a wedding venue.
Owners Genesis Social Enterprise, a Christian foundation based in Alfreton, want to convert eight first-floor bedrooms into en-suite accommodation.
In a planning application submitted to Amber Valley Borough Council, Jonathan Powrie, of Powrie-Smith Architects, said: “Whilst there has been some conference trade, this has been depressed due to the prevailing economic climate.
“However, bookings to use the hall as a wedding venue have remained buoyant. This trade is essential to the ongoing economic viability of the hall, both in the short and medium term.”
The works would involve building new walls and new ceilings, but no external alterations.
A decision by Amber Valley is expected on January 19.
