Amber Valley Borough Council say that the response to the new charging scheme for garden waste collections is proving to be positive.
More than 11,000 households having signed up to the scheme, which was introduced to help the council offset budget cuts.
Councillor Chris Short said: “The response by residents to the introduction of charges has been fantastic and demonstrates the quality and popularity of the service we provide.
“The council is committed to protecting the environment and residents have clearly shown they appreciate and support our efforts.”
It is possible to sign up for the service at any time, but any residents wishing to join the scheme are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to avoid missing out on collections they would be entitle to.
The fixed fees cover the period from Monday, February 27, to Friday, December 1, in which time customers should expect to receive 20 collections on a fortnightly basis.
Where residents were existing garden waste customer who already have a green bin with a brown lid, the cost is £40 for the year.
For any new customers who do not have a bin, or anyone who needs an additional bin, there is an extra £20 charge for one to be supplied to your property.
All the garden waste collected is sent for composting and turned into a soil improver instead of being disposed of in a landfill site.
