Brownies from the Amber Valley area and across the UK have been celebrating as the popular group marks its 100th year running.

The Big Brownie Birthday saw more than 160 brownies, leaders and Trefoil Guild members from various groups in the area come together to enjoy a day at the Midland Railway, Butterley.

Starting their day off in style, the group members travelled by train to Swanick Junction, where they took part in a host of activities including campfire singing, crafts, a picture trail and Zumbawumba.

The children also had chance to play on the beach, as well as explore the buildings and exhibits at the heritage railway site.

At lunch time, the groups gathered together for a picnic, where they sang Happy Birthday to the brownies, before purchasing souvenirs.

Kirsty Heappey, District Commissioner for Heanor and Horsley District Girlguiding, said: “A great day was had by all. Here’s to the next 100 years!”
