Bridge club drives and walks for a good cause

Ripley Bridge Club raised over £1,600 for Treetops Hospice with a bridge drive and a sponsored walk.

Two members of the club, Maggie Davidson and Sheila Bamford, completed a sponsored walk of 86 miles along the Rob Roy way in Scotland, from Drymen to Pitlochry, raising nearly £800. Treasurer Linda Hubbold said: “Maggie nominated Risley’s Treetops as the club’s 2011 charity as she was given much appreciated help in 2009 when her husband was ill with bone cancer. This included night time care and providing a carer so Maggie could attend the club. “Sponsors suggested they would not pay up unless they saw the blisters but Maggie said the only problem they encountered was sore shoulders from carrying heavy rucksacks during the walk!”

A bridge drive and a quiz in October also raised £800 and the club’s chairman David Knowles presented a cheque for £1,600 to Treetops last week. For more information about club call 01773 715706 or 01773 827669.
