Breast screen van in Alfreton

The mobile breast screening van will be located at the Alfreton Health Centre from April 2.

The mobile van makes it easier for women to attend, bringing the service to their doorstep.

It will be at the Alfreton Health Centre until approximately Friday 5 July.

Women aged between 50 and 70 years whose birthday falls between September and December will be invited.

Anyone who is more than 70 years’ old who has not had a mammogram in the past three years can telephone for an appointment on 01332 785336.

Dr Anne Turnbull, consultant radiologist and director for breast screening at Derby Hospitals, said: “Eighty per cent of breast cancer cases occur in women over 50 years-old and the risk of breast cancer increases as we get older. So if you receive that invitation, please attend for your appointment. It will only take 10 minutes and it may save your life.

“We are part of the National Breast Screening Programme, which provides free breast screening for all women in the UK aged between 50 and 70. An extension to the age range is currently being phased in which will include women from 47 to 73. Attendance is by invitation only, and full information is provided.”
