Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday how Shekinah Marie Hallman, 25, of Davenham Avenue, Buxton, was seen driving to the Level 2 nightclub, at Scarsdale Place, Buxton, by a witness who reported her to the police.

Prosecuting solicitor, Robert Carr, said: “A gentleman reported this matter to the police.

“He was sitting on a wall outside Level 2 and he knows the driver and saw her drive up and he was concerned because a couple of hours earlier he had seen her drink a great deal of alcohol.”

Mr Carr added that the witness was concerned because the defendant had been waiting to pick others up.

He removed the keys from the ignition and the police were called, and the witness got involved in an altercation with others, the court heard.

After police arrived at the scene, the defendant admitted being in charge of the Ford Focus, according to Mr Carr, and she failed a drink-drive breath test, but she said that she could not think how the vehicle got there.

The court heard that she registered 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 35 microgrammes which can justify a custodial sentence.

Hallman pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after the incident on July 31.

The tearful defendant, who represented herself, told the court: “I made a massive mistake and I am really sorry.”

She added that the disqualification will not impact on her job, but that not being able to drive would affect her freedom.

Magistrates sentenced Hallman to a 12-month community order with 120 hours’ unpaid work.

She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge, and was banned from driving for 24 months.
