Police and Mountain Rescue volunteers who were searching for a missing man have found a body in woods in Hardwick Hall Park near Doe Lea.
The man had been reported missing by his wife when he failed to return home to Swanwick from work at the nearby Thorntons chocolate factory on Friday, April 8.
The body was found just before 8pm last night, Thursday April 14, with the help of a Mountain Rescue search dog. Police officers had been searching the ponds and other areas in the park for several days in an attempt to find the man.
In response to local rumours Derbyshire police have said the man was not a suspect in the Jia Ashton murder investigation. The hunt for Jia’s killer still goes on. She was attacked as she worked home from work, also at Thorntons, on March 10. Her body was found in Sleetmoor Woods in Somercotes three days later.
The man’s next of kin have been informed of his death but a formal identification has not yet taken place.
There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and police will be preparing a report for the coroner.
