Beavers enjoy crafts and cooking

Derwent and Ladybower Beaver colonies have been busy over the last few months.

Firstly, the groups made paper planes after being told what makes a plane fly.

They also made compasses by magnetising sewing needles, placing them on corks and floating them in water.

Their Halloween party was illuminated by Halloween lanterns, which they made by placing tea lights in jam jars.

During a personal safety evening, they learned how to make a 999 emergency call the correct way.

In another session, they made cakes and prepared fresh fruit salad.

A local night hike featured on another evening and they took part in the Ripley and Heanor District Cross Country in Shipley Park where they gained first place.

Nearer to Christmas, the pack visited the King William Nursing Home, where they sang Christmas carols to the residents, very joyously and enthusiastically.
