Award was a proud moment

I write to express my appreciation for the way in which the Ripley & Heanor News continues to support community achievements, as shown by the New Year Honours List 2012, of which I was one of the chosen recipients.

It was an honour to be numbered amongst such a diverse and industrious group of people all working as volunteers, and let it be stressed, for the betterment of those who live within the Ripley and Heanor environs.

The nominations also provided a splendid opportunity to re-inform this paper’s readership of the presence of SSAFA Forces Help, an international military charity which has been active since 1885, in providing practical help, advice and friendship to serving and ex-service members of HM Armed Forces and their dependants.

Anyone requiring such help need only contact the Derbyshire branch secretary, Colonel Mike Cheetham at Belper on 01773 828116.

Thank you once again to Julie Crouch, editor, and Paul Lynch, reporter, for their kindness and warmth of welcome at the honours presentation when the awards were handed out. Much appreciated by all who received their cherished certificates.
