Arrest after alleged attack

An off-licence worker in Heanor had to be taken to hospital after she refused to serve a customer.

The alleged assault took place at 1.30pm at Bargain Booze on Market Place in the town yesterday.

A man, of around 5ft 10 inches in height, wearing a navy blue jacket, had reportedly entered the store and demanded to buy alcohol. A 22-year-old sales assistant refused to serve him. The man is then alleged to have attacked the worker by punching her in the face and stomach, causing her to fall backwards into a window.

She received cuts to her face and eyebrow and bruising to her eye and one arm. She was taken to Ilkeston Hospital’s minor injuries unit.

A man in his thirties has been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed. Police arrested the suspect after witnesses saw him head off in the direction of Ray Street and enter a nearby property. There is no suggestion the man stole goods from the shop.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward by calling the non-emergency number 101.
