A Ripley army supply firm are celebrating after claiming top prize at the world’s biggest military-based trade show .

More than 1,000 businesses from all over the world attended the War and Peace Show at Hop Farm, which sees the Kent countryside taken over by largest single collection of military equipment in one place outside of a war zone .

And Anchor Supplies survival and camping superstore, based on Peasehill, returnedwith the ‘best of the show’ award, after judges were impressed with the company’s selection of stock, which included the largest range of military camping gear at the show.

General manager Dawn Lear said very few people left their stall empty handed over the week.

She said: “We have been going to this event for the past 20 years.

“For us this is an integral part of our calender year. It’s the biggest show of its kind.

“People come from all over the world to see this, it was a real honour to win.”

Company director Tommy Hedges, said there were more than 20,000 people attending the War and Peace Show.

“You get a diverse range of people,” he added. “From military collectors through to people interested in camping, fishing and adventure - right through to battle re-enactors.”

But the Anchor supplies stand, manned by three of the company’s Ripley staff, had some particularly interesting customers during the week.

The staff sold stock to big-budget action movie ‘buyers’ - seeking out props for a blockbuster sci-fi thriller soon to hit cinemas.

Tommy said: “Two of the buyers from a Hollywood production company turned up at the show and spent money with us.

“All I can say is that the movie is set 20 years in the future, there’s A-listers in it and has got a military theme, but I am not allowed to say any more!”
