Thieves stole ornaments and other items from gardens and a cemetery in Horsley.

Police say that several ornaments have been reported stolen from St Clement’s Church Cemetery, on Church Street, Horsley, over the last few months.

Between 6pm on Sunday, March 8 and 6.30am on Monday, March 9, a number of garden ornaments and equipment including a hanging basket, lanterns and a watering can, were taken from a property on The Orchard in Horsley Woodhouse.

Officers are looking to speak to an elderly woman who was allegedly seen in the same area the night before, putting items into the boot of her car.

PC Anna Welberry from the Shipley, Smalley and Horsley Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Some of the items taken from across the local area, especially from the cemetery, have huge sentimental value to residents.

“Local officers will be stepping up uniformed patrols at key times and working alongside St Clement’s Church staff and volunteers in a bid to catch those responsible.

“We’re urging people to be vigilant to these crimes and ask them to contact us with any information, using the 101 number.”
