Police are appealing for witnesses after a bus driver was assaulted in Heanor.

The bus was being driven along Market Street, close to the Red Lion pub, when the driver spotted a man standing in the road at around 11.20pm last night (Tuesday March 31).

The driver stopped the bus and urged the man to move, but he refused and started to pull the windscreen wipers from the front of the bus.

When the driver got off the bus, he was then assaulted. He later went to King’s Mill Hospital, in Mansfield, for a check-up.

• A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.
