Another dispersal order will be in force in Chesterfield town centre this weekend

The order - which will start at 10am on Friday and end at 10am on Sunday - will give police officers and PCSOs the power to move on troublemakers aged over 10 for up to 48 hours.

As part of the measure, children aged 16 or under can be moved to their home address or a place of safety and anyone who refuses to comply with an order to leave an area will be committing an offence and could be arrested.

According to police, large groups of young people have been gathering in Chesterfield town centre and playing loud music, drinking alcohol and intimidating members of the public. Damage has also been caused to the market place.

A dispersal order was in place in the town centre over the previous weekend.

Inspector Dave Nicholls, of the Chesterfield Local Policing Unit, told the Derbyshire Times: "During the weekend, four dispersal orders were issued to young people who were causing a nuisance in the market place, shouting and swearing at other members of the public.

"Three of them were also found with alcohol on them and this was seized.

"We had one reported incident of anti-social behaviour in the town centre during the time the dispersal order was in place."

Insp Nicholls added: "In terms of the future, in the short term another dispersal order will be in place for next weekend and we are working with the Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership to look at possible longer term solutions, including community protection notices and setting up anti-social behaviour contracts for individuals found to be persistently causing anti-social behaviour.

"My youth engagement team is working with schools not only around the general issues surrounding anti-social behaviour but also around any individuals who are frequently causing a nuisance or getting in to trouble.

"Our message to parents continues to be to help us prevent these issues and for their support by taking the time to find out where your child is, what they are doing and to ensure they are behaving responsibly."
