Amber Valley antenatal teacher celebrates success

AMBER Valley National Childbirth Trust branch is celebrating the success of its latest student to qualify as an antenatal teacher, meaning there will be more popular antenatal classes for expectant parents in the Amber Valley area.

Gail Lowe has just completed three and a half years of study to become a fully qualified antenatal teacher able to provide antenatal courses for prospective first time parents.

The Trust (NCT) is renowned for its antenatal courses favoured by first time parents in their thousands. Expectant couples attend in small groups and learn together about the labour, different ways of labouring, pain relief, breastfeeding and what to expect if things don’t quite go to plan. The main focus of the course is to provide information for parents to make informed decisions about the birth and early parenting. The course covers the immediate postnatal demands of the baby, exploring the impact the baby will have, baby care, sleep etc.

It’s an immensely supportive environment, allowing new parents to make friends with other couples becoming parents for the first time, and allows both new mums and dads to continue to meet long after their babies are born for friendship and mutual advice and support.

Now qualified to teach classes without supervision, Gail Lowe says the most important piece of advice she can give newly expectant parents keen to do NCT classes is to enquire early on in the pregnancy as places fill up quickly. “We offer a variety of formats to suit the vast majority of clients. Please speak to our Parent Service Administrator Tara Hamilton on 0844 243 6874 to book NCT courses.”

Gail continues, “The cost for a standard course is £150 per couple and is excellent preparation for the birth of your baby and parenthood. We do offer discounted rates and clients can also pay in instalments which is extremely helpful, especially in these difficult and uncertain financial times.”

As well as classes, Amber Valley NCT Branch also runs groups for parents and their children. On Mondays 10am – 11.30am there is a parent and baby group for parents and carers with babies from bumps to 1 year old, held at Belper Community Hall, and Wednesday at the same time and place a parent and toddler group for parents and carers with children up to preschool age For more information about the work of the NCT or the local branch please see
