Alfreton Town Council have raised their Council Tax precept for the forthcoming financial year by 3.8 per cent.
In a statement, the council said it had hoped not to increase the budget, but claimed an additional £5,000 was needed for the council to examine and prepare for the Government’s Neighbourhood Planning Process. Alfreton’s Mayor, Councillor Marlene Bennett, said: “We have really wrestled with this year’s Town Council precept. We set ourselves the task of avoiding any increase in cost to local people. We are keen to maintain the services which we provide.”
