STUDENTS at Alfreton Park Community Special School are holding a series of events to try to raise £200,000 to pay for a new building to house their swimming pool.
Tickets for the latest event on Friday, April 15, in aid of Alfreton Park Community Special School’s fundraiser, are now on sale.
The latest fundraising event is a concert featuring Saxy, a saxophone and vocal duo, at the Peacock, in Oakerthorpe.
The school’s Let’s Raise the Roof campaign also aims to provide new changing rooms and a walkway between the pool and the school.
A school spokesman said: “The swimming pool is a firm favourite among the school’s students and is used by all classes to provide educational play and therapy. In addition to being used by the students, other local schools and community groups also benefit from the pool and parent and toddler groups run four sessions each week.”
A second fundraiser for the project is being held at the Hurt Arms, Ambergate, on Saturday, May 21, from 2pm until 11pm. Tickets are not required and a variety of activities is planned.
The school was hit by the axeing of the Building Schools for the Future programme last year.
