A NATIONAL talent contest for Gypsies, Roma and Travellers, is to be judged by the Mayor and Mayoress of Amber Valley.
Cllr Ron Ashton and his wife Nancy will assist in judging the semi-final of ‘Travellers Got Talent’ on June 18 at the Genesis Centre on King Street.
Hopeful contestants have been showcasing their acts in six regional finals across the country and 15 regional winners will compete in a final at the Southbank Centre in London as part of the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain, on August 20. Promoter Jake Bowers, of the Gypsy Media Company, said: “Anybody with a Gypsy, Roma or Traveller heritage can take part and perform what they like. But the judges will be looking for powerful performing talent to put through to the national final. To improve their chances of getting through, entrants should know that the judges are particularly keen to see people perform their own songs or perhaps breathe new life into a traditional Gypsy, English, Irish or Scottish song.”
