The Money Shop plans to open a branch in Alfreton by taking over premises used by the Card Factory.
The Card Factory, which has been based on Institute Lane for seven years, is set to relocate to larger premises somewhere in Alfreton.
A staff member said business was good and the move was needed so the store could have a stock room. The shop has one full time and five part-time members of staff.
Parent company Instant Cash Loans Ltd submitted the application to change the use of the premises at 14 Institute Lane from Class A1 retail use to Class A2 financial and professional service uses last week. The application claims that a retail health check of Alfreton’s primary shopping frontage revealed the proposal would leave 66 per cent, or two thirds, of shops remaining in Class A1 use.
There are currently 549 Money Shops operating throughout the UK, offering cash loans, pawnbroking and gold and jewellery purchase and cheque cashing facilities. The application anticipates 100 transactions at the new unit per day, rising to 250 on Fridays.
A decision by Amber Valley’s planning board is anticipated on May 29 .
