A ‘parking payback’ scheme, a shop for startup businesses and special craft based community fairs could be on the cards for Heanor in 2013.

The Heanor Town Team, was formed to oversee the Portas Pilot bid last April, but despite missing out on becoming one of the 24 towns it has pledged to continuing meeting in order to help bring shoppers back to the town centre.

This week Amber Valley Borough Council regeneration manager Stephen Jackson has outlined its plans for the year. He said there was interest among traders in setting up a scheme to refund customers their parking tickets if they spent in participating stores.

And, he said, the team was also in talks with landlords of retail units about setting up a ‘community shop’ - which would help get cottage industries into a high street outlet by sharing the store space and rent with other businesses.

“The jump from a market stall to a retail unit is a big one,” he said.

“This way three or four businesses can come together, share the costs and share the running of a shop.”

n To keep you up to date with the work of the town team, Mr Jackson will be writing a column for the News starting in February.
