A pint at the Pear Tree

editorial image

A fascinating snapshot of Heanor in the late 19th Century is shown in this photograph brought in to us by a reader this week.

The image shows Red Lion Square in 1890, with plenty of folk gathered outside a public house.

The building on the right of the shot is what we now know as the Red Lion pub - but at the time it was called The Pear Tree.

A big thank you to Tony Benniston of Nuthall, who brought us in a series of snaps for us to use in our Memory Lane pages this week, focusing on the Red Lion Square.
