More than 50 cans and bottles have been seized from underage drinkers in the Heanor.

The booze, which included cider, wine, vodka and other spirits, was collected during police neighbourhood patrols at Heanor Market Place, the Tesco store and Shipley Park on Wednesday, June 20.

PCSO Rio Lyons of the Heanor and Loscoe Safer Neighbourhood policing team said: “We had reports from the community that some local school leavers were planning on getting together and drinking alcohol to celebrate.

“We understand that young people may want to honour the end of their school life with their friends, but drinking under age is not only illegal, but also has the potential to fuel anti-social behaviour and could put their safety at risk.”

PCSO Lyons added: “Patrols were carried out in areas where we know are popular places for young people like to gather, seized a large quantity of alcohol and took action early to prevent issues from happening later in the day.

“With the school summer holidays approaching, we would also remind parents to make sure they know where their child will be while they are out, and what they plan to do. It’s also important that they are aware of the all risks and possible consequences of drinking alcohol underage.”
