THE 100th anniversary of the Salvation Army Worship and Community Centre in Ripley, is to be celebrated with special services on Sunday, June 12. Envoy Kevin Wibberley said: “We would like to invite anyone who would like to be part of the celebrations to the services at 11.15am and 5pm.
“It’s also Pentecost this Sunday, which is often called the birthday of the church - so it’s quite appropriate in that sense.”
Special guests will include Salvation Army leaders Mike and Wendy Caffull, who have worked on emergency relief teams. The centre is based on Heath Road in the town. The anniversary has prompted worshippers to dig out pictures from events at the centre from years gone by like this one at a Christmas sale in 1985.
