Review: The Illegal Eagles at Chesterfield's Winding Wheel

The double-necked guitar on stage marked the transformation of a very rainy Chesterfield into southern California when The Illegal Eagles played to a full house at the Winding Wheel on Saturday night.

This great tribute band had the hall rocking to a succession of hits from Withy Woman and Desperado to Lyin’ Eyes, and included a fitting tribute to Glenn Frey in Take it to the Limit with superb vocals from Christian Phillips.

The Joe Walsh classic Life’s Been Good opened the second half in great style and Gary Hicklin’s version of Wasted Time featuring vocals and solo piano, was my particular highlight of many in a fantastic concert.

The obligatory encore item Hotel California marked the end of the band’s current UK tour.

The Illegal Eagles left the Winding Wheel with a fantastic ovation and the promise to return next year. It can’t come soon enough.
