The Railway Children will be performed in Buxton over the Easter holidays, in a stage adaptation that captures all the excitement and emotion of the original storybook favourite.

Written in 1905 by E. Nesbit, the story tells the plight of a young family who move from London to live at The Three Chimneys, a house near the railway in Yorkshire.

After the children’s father is falsely imprisoned, the plot centres on the lives of Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis, as they adapt to country life whilst desperately clinging to the hope of their father’s return.

The title is most well-known for the 1970 a film version starring a young Jenny Agutter and Dinah Sheridan.

This latest stage version for ages five years and over will bring the delights of the literary classic to a whole new generation.

The Railway Children will be staged at Buxton Opera House from March 29 to 31.

For those who prefer a swashbuckling seafaring adventure, the storybook Here Be Monsters will be brought to stage, entertaining children at Pavilion Arts Centre.

Families will anchor up and join the villainous Captain Cut-Throat and his fearsome crew in a salty show, packed full of songs, interactive fun and surprises.

The action-packed musical extravaganza, based on the book by Jonathan Emmett will be performed by five talented actor musicians, perfect for families with its mixture of magical story-telling, original music and thrills galore!

Adventurers will sail through monster-infested waters in search of a mysterious island crammed with jewels. Whilst the Captain is certain that “monsters simply don’t exist,” his crew are not so sure!
